CASAS VIEJAS

Casas Viejas is located in the Uco Valley, San Carlos district, in the Mendoza province. 82 hectares in size, planted with 48 hectares of grapevine. The rest of the area is dedicated to horticulture. These grapes are grown using the pergola (parral) method. The majority was planted in 1954.

The white varieties are: 8 hectares of Chenin Blanc, 5 hectares of Tocai Friulano, 5 hectares of Pedro Jiménez, 1.4 hectares of Rieslina.

The reds are: 2 hectares of Malbec, 5.6 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, 5 hectares of Bonarda, 4.5 hectares of Tempranillo, 3.2 hectares of Barbera d'Asti, and 8.3 hectares for future cultivation of vines.

Distance: 125 km from the winery. In the foothills of the Andes mountain Range. Situation: A 125 km de la cave, Casas Viejas se trouve au pied de la Cordillère des Andes.

Soil: Spacious and sandy with predominating fine sand. Large depth and very permeable, due to its physical-mechanical characteristics of internal drainage. The climate conditions makes the limited organic material undergo major decomposition.

Irrigation: Underground water sources extracted from water tables of excellent quality at a depth of 20-25 meters.

Climate: Temperate. Apt for grape cultivation. With a period free of freezing of 192 days. The extreme temperatures are 11.1° C in June to a maximum of 36.7 in the month of January, with deviation of 14.6° C. Precipitation is predominantly in the period of spring to summer, with an annual average rainfall of 278 mm.

Altitude: Average of 975 meters above sea level.

Grape Harvest: The harvest occurs between the 5th of March and the 25th of April, varying one week depending upon the climatic conditions and the variety.
